Constipation in Pregnancy
Constipation in pregnancy is a common complaint many women in pregnancy experience and it is due to a variety of reasons including; hormonal changes which slow gut transit, the baby squashing the bowels and iron supplements.
To help with a healthy bowel during pregnancy try the following:
- Try to drink at least 1.5L of water or clear fluid during the day
- Ensure you eat an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables and wholegrain fibres
- Exercise at least 30 minutes a day
- If you are still constipated even after you have followed these steps speak to your doctor or midwife about possible supplements to help with your constipation
