Kids Pelvic Health

Kids can have pelvic floor problems too!

It is common for children to deal with challenges like bedwetting, constipation or incontinence, and sadly, can result in them experiencing humiliation, embarrassment and shame. As parents, we can become helpless and frustrated and often don't know how to help our children. It can be emotionally draining and affect the whole family.

Our team is here to help your child overcome these challenges with engaging education, personalised treatment plans and practice. Kids can learn to take control of their bowel and bladder function using the tools and strategies provided through pelvic health physiotherapy.

For those children with sensory issues, ASD or ADHD/ADD, we have fidget toys to keep your child entertained whilst we build their comfort and feelings of safety in a new place. We help with personalised ideas to minimise the sensory issues around toileting for your child who may have decreased or increased sensitivity in all of their senses.

‍Physiotherapy services for kids?

‍What can you expect in an initial appointment?

  • It is important that both you and your child feel comfortable and supported in your appointment and at home. We invite the participation of you and your child during the consultation and treatments.
  • We will ask about the challenges you’ve experienced, any official diagnoses or medical testing you’ve received, your concerns and hopes, strategies tried so far, and your child’s development. We will review your child’s questionnaire and have them complete a bowel/bladder diary.
  • With the consent of you and your child, the therapist will likely want to evaluate the external pelvic floor muscles to determine your child’s ability to contract or relax the pelvic floor. This is done visually and/or with palpation. Unlike the process for adults, there is NO internal examination of the pelvic floor muscles for children.

Our treatment is highly individualized and based on the findings of an assessment and your family’s goals. Most importantly, our team keep it fun, engaging and rewarding for your child.
