What is pelvic pain?


Pelvic pain is the general term used to talk about all pain experienced in the pelvic region;  inside the pelvis, in the lower abdomen, external genitalia, front hole or perineal and anal areas.

 

You may experience one or a few of these conditions but the impact on your life can be significant.


Signs and Symptoms (AFAB)

  • Do you experience abnormal or heavy periods?
  • Do you experience excessive pain in your lower back/abdomen/vagina or front hole at different stages of menstruation?
  • Do you experience pain or burning during intimacy, with touch or whilst trying to insert a menstrual product?
  • Do you experience pain or burning in and around your vagina or front hole?
  • Are you able to achieve an orgasm or has your ability to achieve an orgasm decreased?
  • Are you unable to achieve penetrative intimacy?


If you answer yes to two or more of the above questions you are probably experiencing pelvic pain.

Signs and Symptoms (AMAB)

  • Do you experience pain or bladder/bowel dysfunction from wearing a tucking or non-tucking gaff tape or underwear?
  • Do you experience pain with tucking or when pushing the testes through the inguinal canal?
  • Do you have pain in the external genitals, anus or lower abdomen?
  • Do you have difficulties achieving an orgasm?
  • Do you get pain post-orgasm that can last hours or days?
  • Do you experience sensitivity to touch on the lower abdomen or with tight clothing around the stomach?
  • Do you experience difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel?
