  • What is NDIS?

NDIS, or the National Disability Insurance Scheme, is an initiative funded by the Australian government that offers support and services to individuals with disabilities. Its primary goal is to assist people with disabilities in reaching their aspirations, enhancing their quality of life, and engaging actively in their communities.

Managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the program is accessible to eligible Australians under the age of 65 who have a permanent and substantial disability.

  • Who is eligible for NDIS?

To be eligible for the NDIS, a person must meet all of the following criteria:

    1. Age Requirement: At the time of applying for the NDIS, the person must be under 65 years of age
    2. Residence Requirement: The individual must reside in Australia and be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
    3. Disability Requirement: To qualify, an individual must have a permanent and substantial impairment or disability or that significantly impacts their ability to engage effectively in activities or carry out daily living tasks. This disability is expected to be lifelong and will necessitate ongoing support and services.
    4. Early Intervention: For children and adults to obtain access to support, aimed at minimising the functional impact of their permanent impairment. Early support may not be required for a lifetime, but can assist in improving functional capacity, developing skills and increasing capability, leading to less disability support needed in the future. There are different requirements for children under the age of 6 with developmental delays or disabilities.

It is essential to understand that eligibility is determined on an individual basis. This process entails collecting information regarding the person's disability and its effects on their daily life. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) or its representatives are responsible for making these eligibility decisions.

Visit the official government website to find the latest updates on NDIS eligibility criteria.

  • Types of NDIS Plans

    Self Managed Plan:

    • They have the freedom to select their service providers and negotiate service agreements,
    • They receive their NDIS funding directly and are responsible for managing their budget, paying invoices and tracking their expenditure.

    Plan Managed Plan:

    • Participants engage a plan manager to assist them in managing their NDIS funds.
    • While participants retain the freedom to select their service providers and determine the support they require, the plan manager takes care of the financial responsibilities.
    • The plan manager makes payments to service providers on behalf of the participant.

    NDIA Managed Plans:

    • The participants' funds are fully managed by the NDIA
    • Service providers and supports outlined in the participants' plan are negotiated and engaged by the NDIA using NDIS-Registered Providers only.
    • Participants have limited control over the management of their funds with their needs met according to their plan.

We listen to your specific concerns and ensure that you feel safe and heard, prioritising your goals and providing you with an effective treatment plan so you are empowered and in control.
