What is Pelvic Girdle Pain?
Pelvic girdle pain is a general term for pain experienced in your sacroiliac joint, pubic symphysis, hip or coccyx (tailbone). You may also experience a mix of these.
Signs and symptoms?
- Are you pregnant and experiencing pain that is aggravated when walking, doing household chores or any single leg activity like climbing stairs?
- Do you experience any pain in the front of the pelvic bone over the pubic symphysis or pain to touch this area?
- Do you experience pain in the area of the sacroiliac joint, or coccyx or pain to touch these joints?
- Have you experienced a fall, accident or trauma to your pelvic area?
- Does your tailbone hurt when sitting but not when walking?
Contributing factors?
- Women with hypermobile joints tend to be more at risk of developing Pelvic Girdle Pain
- Pregnancy causes increased load to all joints and can contribute to pain in any area around the pelvis
- A previous history of hip / pubic symphysis, coccyx or SIJ pain
- A history or a fall on the coccyx
- A history of any trauma to the pubic symphysis, SIJ or coccyx.
